When setting up for the width of the planter do you just figure for the number of rows? I have an
8 row set it for the planter width of 8 X30" =240. do I need to figure for another 30" ? 15" off each end to be able to get correct acres? The way I have it now I keep coming up short!

Yes the # of rows times the width ofthe rows in inches. If your planter is 8 row 30"= 240" is right. 240" is the width of the swath across the field that you are covering. Probably your speed cal, or is it a distance cal??, is set incorrectly, thus giving you the wrong acre count.

Explain on the speed!! Have a unit on top of the cab, can;t remember which unit. Is not the JD
Radar. Have a setting ( series of numbers) in the monitor from the manufacturer that we put in
when installed. Rechecked everything seems to be correct.

If you crowd your roes at all then the acres almost always come out long for me. so I started slightly narrowing up the row width to compensate and personally find that 29.9 works pretty close for my set up. YMMV KB

On the Computer Trak 250, when you adjust the row spacing and number of rows, the implement width should automatically adjust. You can fine tune this if need be by manually entering the implement width, make sure you adjust this LAST, or else when you adjust row number or row width, your adjustment will be lost and replaced with the calculated result.

I would check your distance calibration.

If you have a radar unit perform the calibration in your manual. For sake of thoroughness here is the procedure

With monitor on
1. Repeatedly press SETUP SELECT switch until DIST CAL is displayed in left-hand column
2. Mark a straight 400 ft course in the field... try to use the conditions you will be planting in, don't calibrate on a nice hard surface without the planter. Best of all drop the planter in the ground.
3. While driving at expected planting speed, press the DIST CAL switch exactly when passing the start marker on the course. This will set the display to zero and begin counting pulses. Press DIST CAL switch again, exactly when passing the end of the course.

Your display will show approximately 7836

It is also possible to set a fixed speed into the monitor using the SPEED SET MODE if so some reason you do not have functional radar; however this mode is deactivated each time the monitor is powered off.

Now I do not know if this actually works on a 250 monitor, but in my old manual the procedure for a 350/450 follows.

1. To enter Speed Set Mode, hold SPLIT ON/OFF switch while turning monitor on. A full display screen will be displayed for a few seconds and then the ROW FAILED screen will display.
2. Release SPLIT ON/OFF switch and press SETUP SELECT switch. "SPEED" will be displayed in lower right hand corner.
3. Use DIGIT SELECT and 0-9 switches to enter expected planting speed.
4. Press SCAN switch to begin monitoring seed flow
5. If power is lost to monitor for any reason, hold SPLIT ON/OFF for one second while powering monitor on to re-enter Speed Set Mode. Previously entered speed is stored in memory and will not have to be re-entered.

Extra note, I believe that on the 250 the SPLIT ON/OFF button is actually labeled as AREA ON/OFF

Subject: RE: JD 250 Monitor keeps counting acres when planter is up, Why?

68340

I also have a Hiniker 8100 that is getting old, but it counts my acres for me.

But whatam Idoing wrong about the JD 250 and it's counting of acres all the time, planter up or down.

I thought it would know that when the 3 point is up that it would stop counting acres.

What am I missing?

I put a micro switchon the 3 point lever to stop the Hiniker 8100 from counting.

The micro switchputs the Hiniker spray in the HOLD position when the lever/3 point is up.

I am using a JD 4755 and the tractor radar.

The same is true with the 4755 dash mounted factory computer. It never stops counting area when the 3 point is up.
